Urrbrae Gatehouse

The Urrbrae Gatehouse, a historic structure built in 1883, was successfully relocated after a complex and meticulous process. Originally located at the busy intersection of Cross Rd and Fullarton Rd, the Gatehouse was carefully deconstructed, with every element—from bricks to windows, cataloged, cleaned, and stored for reconstruction.
This project stands as a remarkable example of engineering precision and heritage conservation, ensuring the Gatehouse remains an iconic landmark.

This project might be Adelaide’s largest ever jigsaw puzzle!
This project highlights our heritage skills and capability to relocate and restore the Urrbrae Gatehouse ensuring every critical element such as each stone and brick was returned to its original location. This was combined with the modern addition which utilised todays techniques to result in a functional space to be enjoyed for future generations.

This project involved accurately recording key parts of the building, carefully cleaning and labelling these parts, and storing them safely.
Heritage-listed elements were reconstructed piece by piece, coupled with modern yet complementary construction techniques. New stonework was also carved by hand to replicate elements that had previously been poorly conserved.
