This project involved a large extension to the existing single fronted workers cottage. The block was 9 meters wide and posed challenging design parameters as well as access during the build. The owners wanted to maintain the street appeal of the existing cottage, whilst creating a functional, energy efficient home with enough rear yard space for their cubby house, veggie gardens, rainwater tank and dog! The final design involved a two storey solution with an appealing mezzanine level and 6m meter pavilion style ceilings in the living area. Passive solar design was included to exclude the summer sun, double glazing was installed and the insulation was increased to create a comfortable home year round.
